Join the Collie Art Gallery members for the opening of How Did I Get Here?, the first exhibition of works from the Art Gallery of WA’s (AGWA) State Art Collection, at the special time 4pm, Friday 19 July 2019, as part of the Freighting Ideas state-wide initiative.
Inspired by the 1980 Talking Heads song Once in a Lifetime, How Did I Get Here? brings together 12 key video and photographic works by seven Australian contemporary artists from the State Art Collection interwoven with pieces from the Claude Hotchin bequest which inspired the establishment of Collie Art Gallery.
The exhibition invites audiences to explore how the works came to be and contemplate how their relationships and environments define their sense of self.
Featuring works by leading contemporary photographers in the State Art Collection: Tony Albert (QLD), Michael Cook (WA), Petrina Hicks (NSW), David Rosetzky (VIC), Graham Miller (WA), Toni Wilkinson (WA), and Anne Zahalka (NSW).
Our most honoured guests for the evening include:
- Freighting Ideas Audience Ambassador @Famous Sharron
- Hon. Mick Murray MLA
- Art Gallery of WA, James Davies and Robert Cook
- ART ON THE MOVE, Olivia Nichols
- Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Caroline O’Neill.
