Collie’s new shed for men’s business

Collie’s men now have a dedicated facility to gather, share skills, build things and a better community, thanks to the brand-new purpose-built Men’s Shed on Forrest Street, officially opened Saturday, 12 March 2016, in front of an eager crowd of supporters and onlookers.

Good health is based on many factors including feeling good about yourself, being productive, contributing to your community, connecting with friends and maintaining an active body and mind. Becoming a member of a Men’s Shed provides a safe and busy environment where men can find many of these things in an atmosphere of old-fashioned mateship. And, importantly, there is no pressure. Men can just come and have a yarn and a cuppa if that is all they’re looking for.

Members of Men’s Sheds come from all walks of life – the bond that unites them is that they are men with time on their hands and would like something meaningful to do with that time.
A good Men’s Shed has a Management Committee that has developed a safe and happy environment where men are welcome to work on community projects, specific Men’s Shed projects or a project of their choice in their own time and where the only ‘must’ is to observe safe working practices….all in a spirit of mateship.

The Men’s Shed movement has now become one of the most powerful tools in addressing health and wellbeing and helping men to once again become valued and productive members of our community.

Collie’s Men’s Shed was built with funds from Collie’s Bendigo Bank, Lotterywest and the Shire of Collie, and was fitted out with the help of the Coal Miners’ Welfare Board and Premier Coal.

The Men’s Shed will operate Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 9am-1pm. $10 fee to join and $4 per session to use the facilities.

Contact the Collie Heritage & Menshed Inc. for more information, or to find out how you can get involved.

  1. Could you please pass this message on to Don Vlasich and committee members. Don does not have email.

    Kindest,

    Vic Power

    Dear Members,

We have a beautiful bus and we are encouraged by BP (guess who) to use it for bonding excursions including opening our eyes and meeting others who make up our wonderful organisation.

There are surprizes wherever we choose to go and another surprise will be the scenic areas around Collie with its mines, power stations and history.

Our host in Collie will be Don Vlasich – President Collie Men’s Shed who has kindly arranged to escort us around the sites in Collie including a visit to Griffin Coal Mine and other sites of interest. This is a beautiful area and there is nothing like local knowledge as our host can offer to make this a special day.

We will be meeting Members of the Collie Shed at 12.00 for a sausage sizzle.

Leaving the MPMS at 9.00 am and expect to be back at about 18.00.

We have invited members of Gosnells Shed to come with us if they so wish.

Cost will be $20.00 to cover $5.00 for the sausage sizzle and $15.00 for the bus.

Let me know if you would like to come. My email is vicpower@iinet.net.au Phone 0419 034 411.

    Vic Power.

    1. Hi Vic
Thanks for getting in touch. I don’t have Don’s contact details either, so have passed your message onto Ian Bushell who is also a member of the Men’s Shed.
      Cheers
      Sarah
